Bio
Steve has been creating hand-printed serigraphy, for over 25 years now. His imagery is a way of sharing his experiences from travels throughout the wild and rural parts of the land. He has lived all his life in the Southwestern states of the Colorado Plateau up to the Pacific Northwest, and the large skies, distant mountains, and the seasonal textures of this expansive, beautiful land have proven to be a constant source of inspiration. It is the expression of his attachment to this imagery with simple, hand-cut shapes, overlaying a vibrant color palette of translucent and opaque colors. Combining color, simple shapes and the physical aspects of creating his art...the stencil cutting, color mixing and the act of pulling ink across the screen onto the paper all come together to produce unique original pieces of art. While other artists may use a brush to paint their images onto canvas, Steve uses something as simple as a #11 exacto blade. Avoiding high tech equipment he continues to stay true to processes utilized from generations past to bring vibrant images to life in editions that remain at 50 or less.
Steve has a BFA in Printmaking and has spent his career working both as a commercial screen printer and as a printmaker in the fine arts. His works have been sold both to art collectors, galleries, and have frequently been used as promotional subjects for fine art shows and cultural events. He is represented by several art galleries and can be found at fine art shows along with his wife Bonnie throughout the country during most of the year.
